Early IDW has an issue of dismissing Sonic's subtle game development or misunderstanding it. Especially considering that the games ARE canon to IDW.

Another example; Sonic & Shadow's past.

When asked to give Eggman a chance now he's an amnesiac and doesn't remember his misdeeds (questionable choice btw I'll talk about that later)

He immediately resorts to using Shadow's past against him when he raises the concern of how dangerous someone with lost/manipulated memories can be — because he HAS been there.

But Sonic then resorts to saying "Then if we have to kill Eggman for his past mistakes, we have to kill you too for the same thing!"

He basically guilt trips Shadow to justify his point. While Sonic isn't above bringing up someone's past to get what he wants, because he's not the most moral guy, it's never to bring down others. It's to show them the brightness in their actions.

Let's take same situation and characters. Sonic bringing up Shadow's past to him when trying to justify why Emerl isn't dangerous.

Sonic brings up that being made a weapon doesn't make you Evil. He reminds Shadow of his soul, his essence. His heart. The thing that makes him different from evil. He uses Shadow's past to give him a reminder that there can be good in a weapon as long as there is soul, because a soul can't do bad.

Like Shadow. Like Emerl.

You can even argue that he does this with Shara. Despite her betrayal he doesn't berate her for it, he immediately accepts her grief and reasoning because she had a kind soul. She still did what's right and saved him despite where it all led. She cared. And that alone to Sonic made her only look at the grief in her past. Nothing else.

Sonic doesn't acknowledge the negative past of others to berate them for it, but he does so to show them the positives that came out of it. To encourage and build them up.

Eggman doesn't count because nothing good came out of his misdeeds. Anytime he helped was out of his own benefit. Because it saved his skin.

And times and times again, Eggman "redeeming" proved to be a big fat lie (SA2, colors, lost world) so Sonic should've been skeptical.

And Eggman lacks a soul.

So no, Sonic would never use a dirty and cheap tactic to get what he wants, especially to put down someone for something they worked to overcome and are ashamed of.

Just read this month’s BSD chapter and omygod guys. Bookmark??? I mean okay we knew there was something like that but can the Bookmark move between pages of the Book nonlinearly and does that mean we can compete with the tripolar singularity? And Akutagawa!!! Taking up the knight role so well but what the fuck does he mean asking Atsushi who he is?? We are too late in this story for anyone to be forgetting who they are, vampire powers upgrade or no.

Honestly at a point I've become kind of enchanted by Darven. Not because I like the character. That is impossible. Sorry Kickstarter dude. I'm just so impressed by the pure audacity of his existence. That dude is in the game. That guy is so very in the game. Every goddamn time you have to play the game, that guy is there. And maybe in a way that's kind of beautiful. Shout-out to Kickstarter dude for not only getting your OC in the game but making it so that countless people will never, ever fucking forget him. Is that not the dream we all have. My god.

Sometimes I really do think about doing a DSMP inspired original story... there were so many plotholes that could have been easily fixed, interesting worldbuilding that could have been expanded upon...

But I also have no idea if anyone would be interested in it at all...

hey hi sorry for random disappearance, I'm just in a really bad moment in my life, again (surprise). Juggling two jobs at once, barely making enough to pay rent and live, had to go cold turkey on my meds due to not being able to afford them anymore, and just plain being isolated constantly, at least my kitten has made things more bearable.

I'll probably try posting more in the near future, if I get the motivation to get up from my bed after work but we'll see

how do you manage to stay so inspired to draw the same character a million times in a million different ways..... if i cant get it right first go i always just give up on them and they end up just smashing around my brain forever with no outlet :(

autism. no im just kidding (im not) but if i dont do it who else will!!!! thats my carrot on a stick. i HAVE to draw chase as mary magdalene because nobody else is crazy enough to do it for me. and its also fun to see how the interpretation of the character changes! my first chase drawings on paper look. honestly very little like chase. but thats half the fun of it! seeing how it slowly improves, or maybe it doesnt look like him at all the longer i draw him but it looks like how i feel he should look. if that makes sense. i dont think my chase drawings look like jesse spencer half of the time, but as long as i can kinda convey what i was going for im like hell yeah!

its soooo easy and normal to get frustrated with art, especially when something just Wont come out right. but, to me, the important thing is that you don't let that stop you from creating! art is about the process too, not just the result! you don't like how it came out the first time? that's fine! try again later, maybe on a different medium, or at a different place, or with a different reference, and you would not believe how much that helps. there's been times where i thought i'd be art blocked for LIFE and all i had to do was just.. maybe draw on my living room instead of drawing on my bed, or use colored pencils instead of pens. you know just keep the creative water flowing so you dont cultivate a swamp in your brain.

i think i got mega sidetracked but that's basically it.t o be fair tho it is mostly the autism that just makes me so attached to characters . chase isn't the first, or last time that this has happened. i'm just a big fan of putting guys in situations

Do you guys ever think about how Linzi was killed by her own creation. How she never would have been in danger if her commitment to her story and to living it and not just writing it down after the fact, and she was so deep in it that leaving could never be on the table for her no matter what happened. The way she gives up everything for the hero of that story and is subsumed by it, physically becoming it. And any ordinary bard would have gotten to write their tale and live long and enjoy the fruits of their labor, but Linzi's work eats up everything she is.
